Money
Construction is paid the moment you build. Everything else, rent coming in and costs going out, is settled once a day at the daily closing at 06:00.
The daily closing
| In | Out |
|---|---|
| Rent from every tenant (a game day is a rent month) | Maintenance of every room |
| Service charges from flat owners | Utilities: $4 per person and $60 per elevator car, more in hot or cold weather |
| Your share of amenity takings | Lighting, per kWh used |
| Wages of janitors and technicians | |
| Waste collection | |
| Loan interest (8 % a year) | |
| Property tax: 0.4 % of what the building cost | |
| Profit tax: 15 % of a positive result |
Energy costs follow the city's energy price, which moves a little every day. Taxes follow the city's tax level. Both are shown in the Economy panel.
The Economy panel
Open Economy (⌥⌘M) to see:
- your cash and loans;
- the rent level for the whole building (60–160 %), with − and +;
- today's energy price and the tax level;
- today and the last seven days, per category, with the net result;
- the latest transactions.
Loans
Borrow $500,000 as often as you need, up to $5,000,000 in total. Interest is 8 % a year, charged daily. Repay pays back in the same steps. Some scenarios lower the limit.
Bankruptcy
When your cash is below zero at seven daily closings in a row, the creditors take over and the game is over. The Economy panel warns you: "In the red for 3 of 7 days". Borrow, cut costs or raise income before it gets there.
Where the money comes from
- Let more units, and let them at a good rent. See Tenants and units.
- Sell flats for a large sum now, if you can do without their rent later.
- Amenities pay rent and a share of their takings. See Amenities and visitors.
- Unused rooms still cost maintenance: build what you can let.
